Back when I started teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, I co-taught my first session with Mark Neenan, an excellent teacher from Santa Cruz. Mark introduced me to the Needs Inventory created by the Center for Non-Violent Communication, and it has become one of the resources that I use most in my teaching. It's a simple list of human needs, and it can be a powerful tool for reflection.
What it shows me again and again for myself and in classes and coaching, is how simple moments can be so meaningful for us. One small moment can affect our whole day because it's a moment of connection, meaning, and being understood and supported. Or another moment can get under our skin for a long time because it seems to threaten our sense of safety, belonging, and freedom. As Jon Kabat-Zinn said, "The little things? The little moments? They aren't little."
For this week's reflection tool, we pull together the tools from the last two weeks, along with the needs inventory, to look at some of the key moments of this year. What will you discover here? Heck if I know! But I'm very certain that if you put your mind and heart to it, you will learn something new about yourself that will guide how you approach the next moment.
Reflect on your key attributes throughout 2017!
This one is a doozy. Because of this, it will be very helpful to have completed both "What Did 2017 Bring?" and "Exploring Your Core Attributes" before you begin, because you'll be making connections between the year and your attributes.
As always, I invite you to make some time for this reflection. Get comfortable, create some space. Fill out this little form and I'll send you a printable PDF to get you started in this exploration.
Stay tuned for next week...a look at how to bring these attributes to the forefront in 2018!
